Cathedral "Endtyme"
(Earache 2001)
Catedral are one of those "big bands" in the heavy metal/rock genre, they always manage to get big attention, for what
reason? I mean, Lee Dorrian isn´t one of the most talanted singers around and there are others (A lot) bands that handels their instruments
better BUT and I mean but Cathedral got that something that´s so fuckin important if you want to get somewhere in this buisness.
"Endtyme" really got that something. It´s very hard to say what this something actually consists of, but it´s not importat to know because you´ll
notice first thing you hear it and it dosen´t matter wich album or band you listen to you will right away notice if a band have this something.
Well, we were talking about "Endtyme" weren´t we? Well this album sounds like cathedral tried to do a "best of " album but instead of puttin old songs
on it they recorded new ones instead. A song like "requiem for the sun" sounds very much like cathedreal sounded in the old days when the songs
never had much more than like 20/30 beats per minute. Than you have a "Classic" track like "whores of oblivion". I suppose Lee Dorian is
the brain behind much of the things that goes on in this band, yet I think he´s need to come up with something new when it comes to doin vocal melodylines
almost all lines goes in the same mood and rythm wich makes it a little boring. Most of the album seems to be a orgy in nothing new. But on the other hand
this is the way all metalheads want Cathedral to sound ( me as well) so I guess I have to approve them. AS LONG AS THEY KEEP THAT SOMETHING!!
